For 20 years, people around the world have relied on Psiphon to access the open internet, particularly in places where access to information and online services is restricted.

During that time, we've continued developing our circumvention technology to respond to changing network conditions and increasingly sophisticated censorship. However, the experience of using Psiphon hadn't evolved as consistently across our platforms.

We've now released a major redesign of our Android and iOS apps, with a new interface, a more consistent experience across devices, and an updated visual identity.

Bringing Android and iOS Together

Previously, Psiphon's Android and iOS apps had completely different designs. Both platforms had evolved independently over the years, resulting in different interfaces, navigation patterns, and ways of presenting features.

Although both apps provided access to the same Psiphon network, they didn't offer a consistent user experience or share a unified visual identity.

One of the main objectives of this redesign was to address those differences and establish a common design across both platforms.

We wanted the new Psiphon to feel more modern and refined, while remaining useful, intuitive, and approachable to people with different levels of technical experience. The updated visual identity reflects the technology behind Psiphon without making the app feel overly technical or complicated.

We also focused on creating a more universal experience, with a consistent design that works across platforms and for users around the world. This included simplifying navigation, improving how connection information is presented, and making everyday interactions with the app more straightforward.

The result is a more cohesive experience across Android and iOS, with a refreshed visual identity designed to make Psiphon both easier and more pleasant to use.

What's Changed

The update includes several changes to the Psiphon experience:

As before, Psiphon remains available for free, and users can connect without creating an account or providing an email address.

The Technology Behind Psiphon Remains the Same

Although the apps have changed significantly, the underlying purpose of Psiphon remains unchanged.

Psiphon is built to help people access the internet in environments where websites, services, and conventional VPN connections may be blocked.

Unlike traditional VPN services, Psiphon uses multiple circumvention protocols and connection methods to adapt to different forms of network interference and censorship.

Our open-source circumvention technology continues to power the redesigned apps, and our work on improving reliability and accessibility in restrictive network environments remains ongoing.

Continuing to Improve Psiphon

The redesign establishes a more consistent foundation for future development across Android and iOS.

We're continuing to work on improvements to the user experience, connection reliability, and additional features. Feedback from users will help inform those priorities as we continue developing the apps.

We're also working on new versions of Psiphon for desktop, bringing an updated experience to Windows and macOS users. We'll share more details as development progresses.
